Black Lives Matter

Just to make it abundantly clear, I believe that Black Lives Matter! Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t really been posting this month—other than posting Anti-Racism resources in my stories (which have been saved as story highlights on my IG if you’re ever looking for them!).

I’ve been taking some much needed time to reflect, learn, grow, and address the ways that I’ve personally upheld and benefitted from white supremacy. All white people have this work to do, and I recognize that anti-racism work is a life-long journey. While I’ve been on this journey for a long time, I confess that I haven’t done enough. I’ve taken breaks from paying attention, I’ve been silent when I should have spoken up, I’ve avoided difficult conversations with white loved ones for my own white comfort, and I’ve definitely thought of myself as an exception when I’ve heard “white people” (google white exceptionalism). These are all things that I needed to see in myself, address, and continue to work on so that I no longer cause harm and contribute to our white supremacist society.

Also, I joined a book club. I know, such a white response, right? Still, I’ve already learned so much reading Layla F. Saad’s Me & White Supremacy book and will be referring back to it many times in the future. If you’re looking for an anti-racism resource that will take you on a deeper, more personal journey with this—I couldn’t recommend it more.

This is going to be part of the work we do together here at Krystalrenaes moving forward. We can’t be body positive without fighting for and centering the body liberation of our Black & Brown siblings who continue to be marginalized and who are experiencing violence at an extremely disproportionate rate. Visit blacklivesmatters.carrd.co for some immediate ways that you can help!

May we all be part of contributing to a safer, more equitable world and fight for true freedom, equality, and justice! And may we be willing to do whatever it takes. Sending so much love to all of you and thank you for being on this journey of life with me. If you have questions, want to talk, or are looking for more anti-racism resources—leave me a comment! I’d love to hear from you!
